Professor Zhang Daning
Dr. Zhang Daning is the honorary dean of Shijiazhuang Hetaiheng Hospital. One of the leading experts in traditional Chinese medicine, known as the founder of Chinese medicine nephrology (the science dealing with kidney diseases). Asteroid 8311 bears his name, which is a unique recognition for a physician. Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at several universities, including the Medical Faculty of Nankai University. Distinguished health expert among Chinese leaders, as well as Vice President of the Chinese Traditional Chinese Medicine Association and President of the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
His clinical specialties include urinary tract diseases, prostate problems, sexual dysfunctions, anti-aging, as well as diabetes. His theoretical contributions include the "Heart-Kidney Axis System Theory" and the "Kidney Deficiency and Blood Stasis Theory, as well as the Kidney Supporting and Blood Circulation Promoting Method". He has published more than ten academic monographs and more than a hundred scientific articles. In 2011, he was elected a member of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and in 2020, a member of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Medicine. His honorary titles include the title of National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2014) and one of the First Experts Receiving Special Government Support.

Dr. Aaron Ciechanover
M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc.
Born October 1, 1947 in Haifa, Israel, Professor Aaron Ciechanover is a world-renowned Israeli biologist and Distinguished Research Professor in the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2004)Professor Ciechanover was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2004, together with Professor Avram Hershko (Technion) and Dr. Irwin Rose (Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia), for the groundbreaking discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation. This revolutionary discovery revealed how cells systematically destroy proteins that are no longer useful – a fundamental process essential for cellular health and function.
The Ubiquitin System Discovery
The ubiquitin system works like a cellular quality control mechanism:

A ubiquitin molecule attaches to the target protein, acting as a cellular "passport".

The tagged protein is recognized and transported to the proteasome.

The proteasome breaks down the protein into smaller pieces.

This discovery has proven to be one of the most important breakthroughs in modern biology.
Medical Impact and Drug Development
Professor Ciechanover's research has led to the development of life-saving anti-cancer drugs, including Velcade® and immunomodulatory therapies. His work revealed that the ubiquitin-proteasome system is a cornerstone of cellular biology – cells not only produce proteins but also break them down in a precisely regulated manner.
Defects in this system underlie numerous diseases, including cancers, neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's), and immune conditions. This understanding has enabled the identification of new therapeutic targets and the development of innovative cancer treatments that specifically influence the proteasome/ubiquitin pathway.
